The Foundation dates its start to 1953 in Houston and during its formative years supported many unmet needs within the Houston gay community. Later it would become a 501(c)3 organization for the purpose of enabling its members to make contributions to the needs of the Houston community, including early activism and advocacy at the point the HIV and AIDS crisis was having a devastating impact. It also provided seed money for many of what now continue as Houston’s longstanding LBGTQ+ social support organizations, including Legacy Community Health, Avenue 360, The Montrose Center, AIDS Foundation Houston, and others, providing services, dignity and care to members of our community.
On April 1, 2023, The Diana Foundation will celebrate its 70th Platinum Jubilee anniversary with its annual “Diana Awards Show” at The Ballroom at Bayou Place in Houston, Texas, headlined by internationally renowned comic sensation Bianca Del Rio.
The Diana Foundation, America’s oldest continuously active gay organization, will honor The Montrose Center's Executive Director and community activist Ann J. Robison with its Diana Award for Community Achievement at the 69th Diana Awards on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
On April 21, 2022, the annual nomination of officers took place via eBallot. The board members are made up of five officers and four members-at-large. Nominations for all five officers and three of the members-at-large took place and closed on April 30, 2022.
Founded in 1953, The Diana Foundation is focused on assisting and supporting the needs of the gay community by distributing funds to organizations that are dedicated to providing services that enhance the lives of deserving individuals in our diverse community.
